This is the home of James Froment | Production Support.
You've got here one way or another, via; details on a business card, search
engine, beer mat, a recommendation or maybe you have received an invoice or
quote from him and you thought you'd find out some background?!! You may
possibly even already know him... and are therefore just being nosy.
So, anyway, feel free to look around and find out a bit more about James.
There is a profile, skills base, examples of work undertaken, a list of past
and present clients and a CV to download.
The resources section contains a growing list of web links that he uses in
his day to day work. They're included as much for James's reference as
yours.
And friends? Well just as it says - these are his friends. Yeah, yeah, so
it's not a long list, he prefers to think of it as exclusive! ;-)
James is a multi skilled, multi talented production technician and
manager, working in the arts, entertainment and corporate events sector'.
You can find him in all sorts of places; in a workshop doing bespoke
carpentry projects, in a field running crew and erecting scaffolding,
speeding down a motorway with a van full of branding, up a truss focussing
lights, behind a desk twiddling knobs (of the noisy and the
light variety), balanced on a ladder pointing a projector, or even just
hanging around the tea urn making sure every thing is to plan!
It all started many years ago(16!) when he used to look after the tech for a
mobile disco which he and his mates ran. Then at Uni he was nominated
(bribed) for technician with the Drama Society. And just as he thought he'd
peaked... A position as an assistant technician at UNSU was made available to
him. Well he couldn't forsake his studies and do this could he...? Well of
cause he could, and blow me, a couple of years later, he ended up being the
technical manager, after a fashion!
That was followed by an interlude with an installation company, where, after
a very short while, the feeling was mutual.
It was now, and much to the delight of his future clients, that he set up on
his own to show what was really meant by the term 'multi talented' and
'committed'.
These are what he believes his skills are - and they are in no particular order...
There is experience with using Martin Lightjockey, Avo Pearl 2000/4 and
the Strand 300. LJ and the Pearl being in the majority. Many years were spent
at UNSU doing LX for incoming bands and club nights in all their venues. So
busking is not a problem. Over the last few years there has also been a fair
amount of conference and similar work.
Whilst not being "pro audio", James is certainly competent with sound. He used to look after the club sound systems at UNSU for some years. Has mixed front of house and monitors for many events around the region. In addition he's happy to design, service and install sound systems.
With his electrical engineering background from Uni and college James has a very good understanding of electrics and it's systems. Creating a balanced electrical infrastructure for a temporary site, for example, poses no problems.
Wielding chippie weapons is another skill that is in the blood. At a very early age James started as slave labour in his fathers joinery shop, making the likes of windows and conservatories. Now he likes to work on rostrums and flats. He can bring with him to site a fairly comprehensive workshop.
Assisting in the erection of ground-support and flying structures is another area where an aptitude will be found. Here his attention to detail and understanding of systems is a great benefit.
James has his own MWB van with tow ball fittings.
His licence covers up to C1+E (7.5t)
In addition he has an IPAF ticket to operate scissor lifts & self propelled booms and
NVQ level 2 in telescopic handlers.
The Nintendo Comedy Cafe was a product experience for Nintendo. It consisted of a 15x25m tent with stage, coffee bar, outdoor LED screen and around 80 Nintendo DS's on shop stands and cafe tables. It appeared at; Download Festival, T in the Park, Guildford Festival and V Festival (Chelmsford).
Here I was lead crew and assistant to the production manager. I was working for and representing Ronin Event Services on behalf of Cake Media.
I looked after the site infrastructure, electrics, carpentry, branding, contractor liaison and supervised health and safety. I supplied a site workshop, MWB van and my own PPE.
Here I work for Matt Frankish (The Technical Manager) and with Andy Coates (See friends!). Between us we run the lights, sound and stage for all sorts of shows. but obviously concentrating on the dance genre.
I rig & operate lights, rig and op sound, provide temporary workshops for stage carpentry. For example, there was a 2 week arts workshop called Colina. Where artists from across Europe attended a residential group project exploring different projects. I was contracted to this because of my range of background skills from set building to artist liaison!
